We have encouraged her, with our subtle feline hypnosis-to get out there and do stuff. I think we were successful!
She kept her pedicure appointment today.
oh la la! |
She got her hair done. She said the hair salon is so funky she is surprised they even let her inside! |
She took long walks outside and enjoyed the autumn leaves. |
Finally, she went to visit Lucy and to watch how to tube feed her. | More on that later! |
We hope everyone had a great day. Don't forget to cuddle your feline, folks!! |
I've been thinking about Lucy all day. If we lived close by I'd help you tube feed her...I've done it with all kinds of animals.

PS Nice toenail polish!!
I don't have an e mail address for you so hope this is OK.
DeleteYou may hear the vet call the tube a feeding tube or gavage tube...same thing.
I have always found that with cats, approaching and guiding the tube at the left hand side of the mouth is easier (and less gaggy for the cat).Ask the vet to show you several times and explain in lay mans terms what you are going to do.Diagrams are very helpful. At the back of the throat are two entrances...one to the lungs is nearest the front of the throat, the one to the stomach is the entrance closest to the back of the throat. AVOID the entrance to the front! You will feel a tiny bit of resistance then the cat should make a swallowing action and the tube will glide down the oesophagus. Ask the vet to mark the tube at the length you should be inserting the tube, you will feel more confident that way and won't worry about inserting the tube too far. The procedure is uncomfortable but not painful for the cat. If you feel panicky, stop leave it a while and begin again.
Has Lucy been force fed (not tube fed)?
If you feel you cannot tube feed, please let the vet know.Perhaps force feeding may be an option. To force feed sit with the cat tucked up against you with the face away from you. Open the cats mouth and gently push some pastey textured food up onto the roof of the mouth...cats tend to swallow it after trying to remove it with their tongue...some of the food inevitably ends up in the stomach! This can be done throughout the day.
Do not be worried about asking to be shown several times, have the vet watch you do the procedure. If you are unable to do it,please don't be worried about letting the vet know.
Hope this helps a bit

Thank you so much for this!
DeleteIt's nice to know someone else other than a vet/vet tech did this kind of feeding and lived to tell the story.
You two are doing your best...we hope your Mom gets a good night's rest and Lucy starts to feel better soon.
ReplyDeletepee ess: Nice tootsies!
We try to help her-humans are so slow and dull witted at times, though.
DeleteBy the way, the name of toe polish is called Embarc-dare-ya.
Mommy loves the silly names from OPI.
She also says the colors make her feel like a wild woman.
*snort*
Thanks for visiting!
oh those sweet paws, praying for that sweet girl and what wonderful helpers you have at home
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words.
DeleteWe are happy you encouraged your mom to get out and about. We are keeping prayers going for sweet Lucy that she will quickly improve and get well when she gets home. Your mom is going to do just fine with the tube feeding. Hugs and nose kisses all around!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the prayers.
DeleteMom is so paranoid she will hurt Lucy with the tube feeding.
Purrs to you,
the kitty Brats
So glad to read that you took some time for yourself. Praying that Lucy will be feeling better very soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Safe Haven,
DeleteMom is on vacation this week. She has cancelled two of her bed and breakfast stays. She wasn't sure if she should go through with the pedicure or not. She likes the color, though.
Thank you for your visit and for your prayers.
It's a good thing that you encouraged your human to distract herself a little bit. We are still purring for Lucy.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Texas, we do our best.
DeleteYour purrs are appreciated.

Good job, kitties, encouraging mom to take care of herself. That is so very important.
ReplyDeleteWe are purring and praying for Lucy!
Mewomewomans,
DeleteThanks for your visit. Most humans think all we do is nap, purr and chase things. They don't realize all our intense efforts to keep our humans emotionally stable.
Thanks for your purrs and prayers for Lucy.
Signed,
the kitty brats
