A Gentle request for advice and pumpkin season

Hello all.   Miss Emily here this beautiful almost autumn morning!   The Mom is excited about the approaching autumn season.   She has already bought some pumpkin chai tea to celebrate.   I have been very busy myself with chasing a tiny fly that got into my apartment.   I must say my hunting skills are finely honed.   The other day I caught a cat nip toy and zoomed around with  it in my mouth for a while.  Mom thought I had taken leave of my senses until she realized that the so-called toy was clenched tightly in my fearsome chompers.   Then she had the nerve to laugh at me.   I tell you that if it were not for me that the insect population and the toy mouse population would spiral out of control.   She wouldn't be laughing at me then!!
So-the Mom person bought some pumpkin spice  chai and she was a teeny bit disappointed because it smelled much nicer than it tasted.   She still has her favorite hot cinnamon spice, though, to carry her through these cooler temperatures.
Hmmmm...what else can I tell you.  Oh...this is a bit embarassing..the Oscar kitty .  Don't tell anybody I'm the one to tell but....because of his arthritis he can't do all the things he used to do.  One of the things he has a hard time with is assuming the proper position in the litter box.   The Mom almost wiped out one morning when she slipped in his piddle.   *I'm sorry to tell you she may have said a naughty word in the process*   So now the Mom is cleaning up after him almost on a daily basis.  She bought  puppy pads and some product called Noc Out.
The vet knows about this and suggest a litter box with a top on it to contain things *ahem*
Personally, I think the Mom would be open to any gentle suggestions on how to deal with this situation.
Anyway...she tries to keep him comfy and loved.   She pays extra attention to him these days.
"is that little runt Emily talking about me again"

After a very busy and stressful week Mom had the nicest Saturday!   She cleaned, ran errands and went for a walk through the park after a rain shower.   Some of the leaves are starting to turn color and she is so happy about it!  Her vacation is coming up and she hopes to get out more often to take some photos!

I will close for now.   I have more to say but the Mom is not exactly the most helpful computer typist.   She whines about getting ready for work and the like.
Have a great week everybody!
Love your felines.
Purrs,
Emily

  2. We don't have litter box suggestions. We had one that was cut open in the front for easy access (good for older cats who have problems getting in), but because Nicki pees right in the front right corner (on the plastic) and then kicks litter all over it (and out of the box), it didn't work well for us. But from what we're reading, Oscar's getting IN to the litter box, just not managing to pee inside it. The puppy pads seem like a good idea to us. Probably there will be other bipeds with senior kitties who have good suggestions.

Yes, we went from summer hot and humid to fall overnight Saturday/Sunday morning. Bam! The cooler temps are nice for sleeping; we just don't want to rush the snow and ice and sub-zero temps.

Take care, have a good week, purrs and peace to all.

  3. We haven't had any experience with older cat not getting a good stance in the litter box, but I'll ask family and friends and comment again if I hear anything. Our Chuck has been having poopy problems, and as much as I want to use swear words, I know that he isn't happy making a mess but he just cannot help it. We've taped puppy pee pads to the walls around each litter box, because when Chuck is experiencing poopy issues, he tends to pee over the edge of the box too. Sending you and Oscar purrs!

  4. We have some covered trays, but one cat manages to pee through the join!
Nature's Miracle have a tall sided tray that 'Mr Pee through the join' can't pee over the edge UNLESS the litter is too deep.

  5. You might try this one: https://nvrmiss.com/index.php
Or, you could buy a tall sided storage box from your local store and apply your exacto/box cutter knife to it. That's what we did, which allowed us to make an entrance which was nice and low for our elderly boy. Cutting the entrance into the shallow side of the box vs the long end forced him to go in and turn before he squatted to pee. That way he never missed!
    Hope that helps...

  7. I agree with Fuzzy Tales...if Oscar is getting IN the litter box, I don't think covered or uncovered would make a difference. If it is his "stance" covered or uncovered wouldn't have an affect at all. After reading her comment, I am wondering if he is even MAKING it to the box in time. Oh and Fall is my all time favorite season. My birthday is in October and to me, October is and always will be the most gorgeous month of the year.

  9. Miss Emily, We were just wandering around, checking out blogs and we happened to come upon this one. And We have to say - you are BEAUTIFUL.

As for Oscar's -ahem - problem: Mummy says that Possum, who came before Us, used to shower the area behind his litter-box, until she got him a closed kitty-bathroom. We have two bathrooms, one has a transparent front two-way flap and the other doesn't ('cos the flap broke off and got lost when We moved house). That might solve the problem.
Oh, and Mummy thinks that autumn leaf pic with the raindrops is quite stunning.
